Still running Windows XP? Microsoft ending support April 2014

by Lou Horton on March 29, 2013

We have many home customers and even more business customers that are still running Windows XP on at least some of their systems.  Even though XP is over 13 years old, it is solid operating system that gets the job done.  For many there has just not been a compelling reason to switch, however, that will change early next year.

Why should you care if Microsoft ends support even if you never call them for support?  In a nutshell, security updates…  After April 8, 2014 Microsoft will no longer provide security updates or other bug fixes for Windows XP.  Regardless of how good your internet security software is, without updates that fix operating system level vulnerabilities, your system and personal data will not be secure for very long.

We recommend that our customers move off of Windows XP prior to April, 2014 to avoid any issues.  For many computers running XP, simply upgrading the operating system isn't necessarily the best option without expensive hardware upgrades.  In many cases purchasing a new computer with a current version of Windows (7 or 8) is the best option.  Keep an eye out for good sales (especially around Black Friday) and pick up a new system prior to next year.  We are always available to help you move your documents and files over to your new computer. http://computer-repair-now.com
